The ‘School of Mechanical Engineering’ of the ‘Sharif University of Technology’ activities started in 1966 along with the establishment of this pioneer university.

Over 40 years of activities and elaborated efforts in attraction of highly qualified faculty members and efficient students along with provision of proper infrastructure in line with educational and research facilities, the faculty has achieved a significant position in the country as well as the region.

Presently, the Faculty of Mechanical engineering with over 46 full time faculty members is training students in a wide range of technology fields such as Applied Energy Conversion Designs, Production Processes, Biomechanics, Marine Engineering, and Mechatronics, in different levels of undergraduate and graduate programs.
Availability of numerous specialized laboratories for Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Strength of Material, Production Processes, Precession Measurements, Control, Vibration, Machine Dynamics, Biomechanics, Robotics, and Marine Engineering, in parallel with a wide range of research Laboratories  which are managed under supervision of the faculty members  along with manufacturing and prototyping workshops,  and computer site has procured the possibilities for training of the students as well as execution of experimental and applied researches in the high scientific standards.

Due to the significant standards of the ‘School of Mechanical Engineering’ the ‘Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology’ has recognized the faculty as the ‘Scientific Pole’ in the fields of “Energy Conversion”, and “Design, Robotics & Automation” since 2000, and for “Marine Engineering” since 2009.
The School of Mechanical Engineering has the honor for training of over 6600 engineers and researchers in undergraduate and graduate levels including PhD who are proudly engaged in industrial and academic centers in the country and overseas.  Substantial numbers of highly qualified mechanical faculty members in the country have graduated in at least one degree from this school

The School of Mechanical Engineering activities are in various mechanical engineering fields.  Currently over 550 graduate students in M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels are engaged in research programs under supervision of the faculty members.   During recent years, the faculty has published over 100 research papers per year in international scientific journals with a yearly growth.  The members of this faculty are widely engaged in various industrial research projects at industrial centers over the country

The School of Mechanical Engineering has established great co-operations with different scientific centers in the world.  Presently the co-operation with scientific centers such as Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT), University of Nancy (France), Aachen University (Germany), and University of Alberta (Canada) has provided a convenient support for the international common scientific activities as well as the exchange of the instructors and students.
