Installations of a Micro-turbine Made by the Researchers at Mechanical Engineering Department for Power Generation in Rural Areas
Achieving the technology of hydro micro-turbine, researchers at Mechanical Engineering Department has manufactured and installed three of them in remote rural areas for sustainable power generation. One type of such turbines has been designed and built by this research team for the first time in the world.
According to Dr. Durali, the professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department and the principal investigator of the project, hydro power generation in micro scale which is lower than 50 kW is a common method of providing power to small communities located far from the distribution networks. The power plant unit built at Sharif University of Technology including the turbine and the control system has successfully passed all electrical and hydraulic tests according to IE41 standards. The corresponding tests have been carried out at Water Research Institute and Micro Hydro Power Plants Lab by the first rank referees.
