Marine Engineering is recognized as one of the strategic and leading fields worldwide. Given Iran’s extensive maritime borders in both the north and south, this discipline plays a fundamental role in the country’s sustainable development, maritime transportation, and offshore industries. Marine Engineering encompasses the design and development of vessels, offshore structures, and port infrastructure. By utilizing advanced technologies such as Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Unmanned and Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (USVs/MASS), intelligent navigation systems, marine renewable energy, and advanced corrosion-resistant materials, it has become one of the most dynamic and future-oriented branches of engineering. The application of these technologies along Iran’s coastlines will contribute significantly to the advancement of the marine industry, enhancement of safety, and protection of the marine environment.
In response to the country’s growing need for the development of marine science and technology, the Marine Engineering Research Center at Sharif University of Technology was established in the late 1990s. By providing advanced infrastructure, specialized equipment, and a modern research environment, the Center has created the necessary conditions for specialists and researchers to make meaningful contributions to scientific progress, technological innovation, and the advancement of marine engineering in Iran.
